Land of poets and bonfires, nestled from north to south on the island of La Gomera, with a geography that ranges from the most complex orography to ancient forests, it is undoubtedly its people who have made this territory one of the best-kept secrets of the Island. But if we talk about traditions, the bonfires of San Juan are one of its main attractions. Three fires, three neighborhoods, and a procession that runs between chácaras and drums. Come and see up close why these Festivals are unique in the Canary Islands.
Know its originOn March 9, 2022, the Department of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands made the decision to grant deserved recognition to the bonfires of San Juan by declaring them a Festival of Regional Touristic Interest. This distinction was granted due to its notable promotional relevance, its historical antiquity, the continuous celebration over time, and the significant impact it has had in the media.
The celebration of the San Juan festival is a symbol in the Gomeran municipality of Vallehermoso, where the activities go beyond the lighting of the bonfires, becoming a meeting point for locals and visitors. The festival is associated with the transmission of culture, values, and traditions of the municipality. In fact, the bonfires of San Juan have been in the process of being declared as a Cultural Asset (BIC) since 2019, as pointed out by the Department of Tourism of the Government of the Canary Islands.
